Most kinds of data can be embedded in MPEG-4 Part 14 files through private streams. Matroska is similar in concept to other containers like AVI, MP4, or Advanced Systems Format (ASF) but is entirely open in specification, with implementations consisting mostly of open-source software. Like most modern container formats, it allows streaming over the Internet. MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 is a digital multimedia format most commonly used to store video and audio and store other data such as subtitles and still images. It is intended to serve as a universal format for storing common multimedia content, like movies or TV shows.
